System and compatibility
Consult your International Paint representative for the system best suited for the surfaces to be protected.
TYPICAL SYSTEMS:
- Intershield 486/Intershield 9L
- Intershield 486/Intershield 9L/Interthane 990
- Intershield 486/Intershield 9L/Interthane 990HS
Surface preparations
Paint only clean, dry surfaces. Remove all grease, oil, soluble contaminants and other foreign matter by "solvent cleaning" (SSPC-SP1). Intershield 9L is designed specifically for use as a rollable non-skid coating over properly prepared Intershield 486. Consult the relevant product data sheets for surface preparation and overcoating information. Consult your International Paint representative for specific recommendations.
APPLICATION
Apply by smooth phenolic core roller cover to achieve 'ploughed field' effect if required. Consult International Paint for other effects. Apply mixed material by pouring entire amount onto the properly prepared surface. Then spread out an even amount and texture with a long handled, smooth phenolic core roller cover. Heavy, or thick, carelessly applied coats will be subject to mudcracking and/or blistering. When Intershield 9L has been properly applied the surface will present a uniformly rough appearance over the entire surface. There will be no loosely bound clumps of particles. If required the surface profile can show a pattern of hard raised peaks or ridges similar to a "ploughed field". The peaks of the ridges will be about 0.5 - 1.0" (12.5 - 25.0 mm) apart and approximately 1/16" to 3/32" (1.5 - 2.4 mm) high. The non-skid coating at its thinnest point should be at least 762 microns thick. Consult the following equipment recommendations:
Mixing
Do not proportion material and do not mix until ready to use. Material is supplied in one container as a unit. Always mix a complete unit in the proportions supplied. Agitate Intershield 9L colour base material (Part A) with a power agitator for 2 minutes, ensuring that no compacted aggregate remains in the bottom of the can. Add Intershield 9L converter (Part B) and mix thoroughly with a power agitator for 3 minutes stopping once to scrape the sides and the bottom of the can. Take care not to mix air into the material.
Thinner
DO NOT THIN !
Roller
Use a smooth phenolic core roller cover.
Cleaner
International GTA415/GTA220Work Stoppages and Cleanup
Clean all equipment immediately after use with International GTA415/GTA220. Monitor material condition. Do not exceed pot life limitations.
Welding
In the event welding or flame cutting is performed on metal coated with this product, dust and fumes will be emitted which will require the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adequate local exhaust ventilation. In North America do so in accordance with instruction in ANSI/ASC Z49.1 "Safety in Welding and Cutting."
SAFETY
All work involving the application and use of this product should be performed in compliance with all relevant national Health, Safety & Environmental standards and regulations. Prior to use, obtain, consult and follow the Material Safety Data Sheet for this product concerning health and safety information. Read and follow all precautionary notices on the Material Safety Data Sheet and container labels. If you do not fully understand these warnings and instructions or if you can not strictly comply with them, do not use this product. Proper ventilation and protective measures must be provided during application and drying to keep solvent vapour concentrations within safe limits and to protect against toxic or oxygen deficient hazards. Take precautions to avoid skin and eye contact (ie. gloves, goggles, face masks, barrier creams etc.) Actual safety measures are dependant on application methods and work environment.
Limitations
Apply in good weather when air and surface temperatures are above 0°C. Surface temperatures must be at least 3° C above dew point. For optimum application properties, bring material to 21-27°C prior to mixing and application. Overcoating information is given for guidance only and is subject to regional variation depending upon local climate and environmental conditions. Consult your local International Paint representative for specific recommendations.
